All Newcastle's South Americans Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Jonas Gutierrez (Argentina)

Newcastle United: 2008-15 Position: Midfielder Nationality: Argentine Premier League Appearances: 157 Premier League Goals: 7 International Caps (Goals): 22 (1) A player who will always be loved by the Geordie public, Jonas Gutierrez scored seven Premier League goals in 157 appearances for the Magpies between 2008 and 2015. After signing for Newcastle for £8 million in 2008, Gutierrez remained at the club despite their relegation to the Championship and helped the Magpies win promotion in 2010. A regular under Alan Pardew, including when the Magpies finished fifth in 2011-12, Gutierrez was then struck down with testicular cancer and underwent operations to fight off the disease. Told he would never play for the club again by Pardew, Gutierrez battled back to earn a spot in John Carver's side - before assisting and then scoring to inspire Newcastle to a 2-0 final-day victory over West Ham United at St James' Park to secure the club's Premier League future. It proved to be a fairytale ending to Gutierrez's Newcastle United career, even if a player who showed them exceptional loyalty was treated awfully by the club. Gutierrez was released by phonecall, after Ryan Taylor was asked to hand his mobile over to the 22-cap Argentine. However, Gutierrez will always be adored by the Toon faithful - and rightly so.
