9. Stefan Schwarz

Swedish midfielder and wingback Schwarz spent the 1994-95 season at Highbury and played throughout Arsenal's bid to retain the Cup Winners' Cup they won the year before. The Gunners almost went all the way under caretaker coach Stewart Houston, but lost in the final to Real Zaragoza in extra time. Lining up against Schwarz in the midfield battle was a Uruguayan player called Gus Poyet €“ who would go on to play for Arsenal's London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Horspur. Schwarz went back to play in Europe with Fiorentina and Valencia before finishing his career at Sunderland. George Graham signed him off the back of Sweden's third place finish at the 1994 World Cup.
