Arsenal 2-0 Marseille: Champions League Player Ratings
Arsenal
Wojciech Szczesny: Came off his line smartly to deal with Gignac danger in first half. Let a Thauvin effort almost loop off him into the net, but later made decent save from Marseille sub. That was all Polish stopper was required to do. 6/10.
Bacary Sagna: Set Wilshere away on the counter for the goal. Just like Aaron Ramsey, that broken leg looks very much behind him now. 6.5/10.
Per Mertesacker: More than matched Gignac in the air. A very quiet evening for the giant German. 6.5/10. Laurent Koscielny: Stepped out of defence to stop supply reaching Gignac from midfield. Should be first choice for France. It's a question of who Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps pair with him going into the World Cup: Eric Abidal or Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho. 7/10. Nacho Monreal: Cleared off the line from Thauvin when Marseille sub started to pose danger. Ably deputized for unwell Kieran Gibbs, so an effective night from the Spaniard. Will need more support against tougher opposition though. 6/10. Aaron Ramsey: Somehow denied a goal by Mandanda after breaking forward at 1-0. Lovely ball over the top for Ozil, but German did not make the most of it. Won a penalty, yet was outside of the area. Heavily involved in second goal and is now a top player. 7.5/10.
