Arsenal Transfer News: Ashley Williams Wants Gunners Move

Daily Telegraph. The defender, 28, has been linked with a number of Premier League outfits such as Liverpool and Merseyside rivals Everton but with the Wales international turning 29 in August, it is thought he wants to make the most of the years he has left at the top level, and the Gunners are therefore his number one priority. However, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins insists there has been no interest in the defender and that the club have received no approaches from rivals for his services, according to the Mirror. Williams was released from his contract as a West Brom teenager and later played non-League football with Hednesford Town while working at the Drayton Manor theme park and then in League Two with Stockport. His career has since enjoyed a revival though when he was named captain at the Liberty Stadium and also became skipper for the Wales national team. He also won promotion to the Premier League and, as captain, lifted the League Cup at Wembley in February. But that has done nothing to attract interest from elsewhere, according to Jenkins, who was speaking to the South Wales Evening Post.

"While there seems to be constant speculation about Ashley Williams, I can honestly say that I have not had one call from anybody about him. "There have been all sorts of stories in the press about what is happening with Ash, but I have never heard anything from anyone."
Meanwhile, Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, 25, is close to completing a £22 million deal to join Arsenal, according to his father.
