Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Favourites To Sign Wayne Rooney
Daily Star, The Gunners look set to miss out on the signings of Fiorentina forward Steven Jovetic and West Ham United striker Andy Carroll, and are looking to Rooney to bolster their attack next season. Though a reported £15 million transfer fee and high wages could put off Arsene Wenger. The former Everton striker had one of his lowest return rates in a Reds' shirt last season, notching 12 strikes in 27 league games although the fact the United striker scored 27 goals in 32 league starts the season before clearly shows Rooney is still a talented striker. Rooney has found himself taking a back seat to new striker Robin van Persie and has been unhappy at being pushed back into a more midfield role. As recently as a month ago Arsenal were 50/1 to land the unhappy striker but are now just 6/4 to secure Uniteds number ten this summer. It is believed that the Arsenal boss has a transfer budget of £70 million in order to strengthen his side for the upcoming season in the hopes to mount a more convincing Premier League and Champions League challenge than they've had in years.
