Arsenal Transfer News: Robin Van Persie On Brink Of United Switch

Arsenal will finally allow team captain Robin van Persie join league rivals Manchester United.

Arsenal will finally allow team captain Robin van Persie join league rivals Manchester United, according to reports in The Sun. In what has been the summer's most protracted transfer saga - the Dutchman refusing to sign a new contract with the Gunners back in July - last years Golden Boot Winner looks to have finally been granted his wish of a move. Van Persie was mocked by his own fans in his return against Cologne in Germany on Sunday, with Arsenal supporters chanting "Lucas Podloski, he scores when he wants" - a clear snub of last seasons PFA Player of the Year - as the new signing grabbed a brace of goals to ingratiate himself with the faithful. For van Persie though, who received a relatively lukewarm reception during his substitue appearance, with some sections of the crowd even aiming boos in his direction, this appears to be the end of the line of his Arsenal career. In a symbolic action of the squad moving on without him, he was left behind by his teammates as they returned back to England after the game so that he could link up with the Netherland's squad for their friendly against Belgium on Wednesday. It is believed Arsene Wenger is concerned that having a player on the books who does not want to be at the club could potentially turn the former icon into a hate figure for the fans ahead of the new season, causing disharmony in the dressing room and out on the pitch. Meanwhile, The Daily Mail are reporting that veteran United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has held face to face talks with Arsene Wenger in an attempt to thrash out a deal, with a switch to Manchester United now looking increasingly likely. The Arsenal manager is standing his ground by refusing to part with the 29-year-old for a penny under £30million - but a £20million deal with add on's could be enough to complete the saga.
