Arsenal Transfers: 10 Defensive Midfielders Arsenal Must Sign

2. Cheick Tiote

Club: Newcastle A combative midfielder who isn't afraid to get stuck in and fight for the cause, Tiote is used to the rigours of the game, having played at Newcastle for the past two seasons. Recently Alan Pardew has publically stated he isn't sure about the Ivorian's future at St James' Park, so Newcastle may be willing to accept a suitable bid in January. Their recent transfer policy certainly suggests that they are willing to sell at the right price, and with Tiote arguably one of their most saleable assets having cost comparatively little when he joined, a big January offer might see the Ivorian move on. Newcastle's problem this season hasn't been scoring goals but conceding them, so maybe a shake up is in order. However, his record of 25 yellow cards in 50 league games (despite showing an eagerness to commit to a tackle) might put Arsenal off, considering their disciplinary problems in the past. And Newcastle might be resistant to sell with Vurnon Anita not bedding into the team very well and other defensive midfield options like James Perch injured and Bigirimana a little young. http://youtu.be/t7V98yZyjfA
