Arsenal Transfers: 10 Dream Signings Wenger Still Needs To Make
9. Mats Hummels
The impressive German has had a great campaign with Dortmund and was rotated with Per Mertesacker throughout the World Cup by eventual winners Germany to great effect. Arsenal already have a strong contingent of German players at the club and the addition of one more - possibly two if the Khedira rumours are true - would only serve to strengthen the team. It is looking increasingly likely that Vermaelen will be leaving with the Manchester United vultures circling - especially since Arsene Wenger has openly spoken of his uncertainty of future location of his club captain - so a new centre back is absolutely essential. Hummels is an old fashioned centre back: strong, a good reader of the game, a great header of the ball, dangerous from attacking set pieces and supremely reliable at defensive ones. In short he would be a superb - if inevitably expensive - addition, would compliment Koscielny well, and has a great understanding with Mertesacker, meaning the defence would only stand to benefit from his presence.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
