Arsenal Transfers: 10 Dream Signings Wenger Still Needs To Make
4. Raphael Varane
In a similar vein to the German partnership between Mertesacker and Hummels, Koscielny, Debuchy and Varane would produce a trio worthy of the saying: all for one, and one for all. The young Frenchman is one of Real Madrid's emerging talents but is currently stalling over a new contract, with interest in the youngster hitting fever pitch with most of Europe's elite scrambling to speak with his advisors. One quick phone call from Wenger, talking in his native French tongue of course, could be enough to convince Varane that Arsenal is the best place for him, especially with the club's culture and historical association with his nation. The defender is fairly similar to Mertesacker in his defending style; he's a little faster - of course - and a little quicker to turn - again of course - but the French centre back is marked out for his quality in reading the game and knowing exactly when to step in and when to back off. He was caught out at the World Cup for his lack of strength in the air but at his tender age, there is plenty of time to work on that area of his game.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
