7. Andre Santos
Andre Santos personifies why it is key to be rational during transfer windows and why panic buying can be worse off than not buying at all. Signed on the last day of the 2011 transfer window, he has become best described as a liability than a useful player. Santos impressed during his spell at Fenerbahce which led to call-ups to Brazil and signing for Arsenal, but since then his fall has been spectacular. Now 30 and returning from a loan spell at Gremio, which subsequently led to the Brazilian club not renewing his deal due to poor performances, Wenger should look to offload Santos no matter how low the offer may be. However it is unlikely that the Brazil international will attract much attention and may have to opt for a permanent spell back in his native land, or settle for second tier football. It is quite incredible when you think that Santos was given the number 11 shirt left by Robin van Persie and contrast how their spells under Wenger went, and I'm almost certain that Arsene won't make the same mistake again. Known for his patience in transfer windows and weighing up signings to a large extent, Wenger was uncharacteristic in his signing of Santos which could have put him off deadline day signings forever. It would be highly unlikely that Arsenal would even receive half of the £6 million fee paid for Andre, but - as mentioned - offloading the Brazilian is for the best, no matter how much is received in the process.
