Big, strong, tall and relatively commanding in the air, Swiss centre back Phillipe Senderos seemed to have all the tools needed to be an outstanding defender who would be able to lead the Arsenal line for years to come.

It was just what was between his ears that was his biggest problem as a player.

The now 30-year-old from Geneva just didn't have the footballing brain required to play at the top level, especially in the Premier League. Fans would inevitably get very anxious whenever he had the ball because he seemed to constantly make the sort of simple mistakes that made pundits, fans and even Arsene Wenger slam their palm against their forehead in despair.

While Wenger is known to give his players an abundance of chances before he carts them off, when Senderos' contract was up he was released and allowed to move on a free transfer to Fulham.
