Arsenal Transfers: 5 AVAILABLE Strikers Wenger Should Sign

2. Alessandro Matri

What is Alessandro Matri's role at Juventus? We're not quite sure, and I don't think he is either. He's played a bit-part role this season€”either starting in cup games or being subbed on if the Old Lady need a goal€”but with Antonio Conte's continued pursuit of Fernando Llorente, it's clear Matri's days are numbered. Juventus are one quality striker away from contending with Europe's elite, and when they find that man Matri becomes fifth-choice. That's not to say he's not a very capable striker though, and Arsenal have the peripherals to make it work. Matri thrives on low crosses and remains an absolute ball magnet in the area. The Gunners, and in particular Kieran Gibbs, are fond of low crosses and Matri would be lapping up the goals. What's stopping the deal? Antonio Conte probably wouldn't want to risk losing Matri until Llorente is in, and that looks like it's going to be in the summer. It has to be said, however, that the Italian never plays as it is and doesn't come close to usurping Sebastian Giovinco, Mirko Vucinic or Fabio Quagliarella. Is it fair to keep a player of this calibre on the bench when there are others at the club who could fill in for that fourth-choice role?
