Arsenal Transfers: 5 Blockbuster Signings To Compete In Champions League

4. Adil Rami

Adil Rami Arsenal also need a new centre-back this summer, and in fact have needed one for many years. And Wenger needs to buy better than the likes of Sébastien Squillaci, too, if his side are to be competitive in the Champions League this season. The Gunners have suffered from something of a defensive crisis in recent weeks with Laurent Koscielny's suspension after picking up a red card against Aston Villa coinciding with injury to Thomas Vermaelen. That forced Wenger to play Bacary Sagna as a makeshift centre-half and he won't get away with tactics like that against the likes of Barcelona should he suffer another injury crisis later in the season. Arsenal's back-line has been porous recently, shipping three to Villa, and one man who could help shore up the defence is Valencia's Adil Rami. Rami has all the experience needed to cut it in the Champions League having played at Euro 2012 with France as well as in Europe with Valencia. The 27-year-old fits Wenger's blueprint when it comes to transfer policy in that he is partial to bringing in French-speaking players while his club have made him available for just £9 million. Rami represents something of a bargain, has experience of playing in top competitions and would help abate Wenger's current centre-back crisis, and should be snapped up this summer.
