At 6ft, the Frenchman could lend the same imposing stature to Wenger's engine room as Patrick Vieira once did, and his acquisition would tally with Wenger's apparent policy of buying in French-born internationals. The Gunners have lacked a decent defensive midfielder since Alex Song quit for Barcelona last season and their side looked occasionally lightweight last term. Toulalan could help change that, though he is also wanted by Atletico Madrid.
