Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Arsene Wenger Could Spend Big On This Summer

2. Ibrahim Afellay

Affelay Another area of the pitch in which Arsene Wenger needs to strengthen is on the wing, especially now that Theo Walcott has graduated to a more offensive role up front. Now that the England international mainly operates as a striker at the Emirates, a gap has been left on the flanks that has since been filled by the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Aaron Ramsay alongside Santi Cazorla. Considering however that Ramsay and Chamberlain are 22 and 19 respectively, there is a feeling that the Gunners need a bit more steel on the wings until the latter develop. They've never really replaced Samir Nasri who was so effective for Wenger's side prior to his City move and that's something Arsenal should look into. They've been linked with Barcelona outcast Ibrahim Afellay recently, and the Holland star has been on the fringes at the Nou Camp, and has since been loaned out to Schalke 04. He is looking for more regular first team football and he could get that at the Emirates. He's scored 4 goals in 13 appearances while on loan and would provide Arsenal with a bit more flair on the wings.
