An outlay of 10 goals in 24 Premier League appearances last season seems to vindicate the decision not to move Walcott to his desired centre forward position. The former Southampton Academy product has seen moderate successes in his tenure at the Emirates, from being selected for the 2006 World Cup squad to impressing sporadically during European and Domestic games for the Gunners.

The phenomenal performances of his counterpart Alexis Sanchez on the opposite wing however highlight his own frailties, including a reoccurring display of his inability to cross the ball on target consistently and poor composure in front of goal.

During his time at the club his technical abilities have failed to improve and at the age of 28 he will most likely see his primary (and some would argue only) asset of pace start to diminish slowly from this season onward.

Walcott will no longer be able to input a habitual average performance and expect to keep his position in the team. Wenger could look to replace him with a player capable of matching Sanchez’s performance and output and therefore provide Arsenal with a myriad of actual potential goal threats from multiple areas of the pitch.
