Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Wenger Still Desperately Needs To Replace Tonight

3. Alex Song

alex song Wenger can suggest he has the available options to cover the summer loss of Alex Song, but the first team has lacked an enforcer on the pitch in Song's mold since the African signed for Barcelona. With the defence not meeting expectations at all times during the season, they could certainly do with some added protection, and a deep lying defensive midfielder, with more traditional attributes than someone like Diaby or Arteta, who can both play defensively would fit the bill. It might seem counter to the Arsenal ethos, but Wenger needs to sign a "breaker" type player, who will sit in front of the defence and mop up, breaking down opposition attacks and not joining in with all of the free-flowing attacks. That wouldn't necessarily mean signing a cart-horse player, but someone like Cheick Tiote, who has gone off the boil in the past season in the North East could have been a great addition to the first team, particularly if his form were to be reflected in a cheaper price-tag. However, Tiote's participation in the African Cup Of Nations would make a deal like that seem unlikely, even with his current team buoyed by the midfield addition of Moussa Sissoko. Regardless of that, a defensive midfielder should have been brought in before the 11pm deadline struck.
