Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Wenger Still Desperately Needs To Replace Tonight

This one is more indicative of Arsenal's lack of suitable striking options from the bench. Even if we take Olivier Giroud as the pre-emptive replacement for Robin Van Persie, the squad was still in need of reinforcement upfront (even taking into account the addition of Lukas Podolski). Because aside from the starting front-line, and perhaps Gervinho, who flatters to deceive more than he actually seems to deliver, Arsenal are painfully limited in their options on the bench. They have nobody like Edin Dzeko at Man City, or even Hernandez at Man United who can come on from the bench and change the game, meaning Arsene is more likely to make substitutions that replace starters with supposedly "lesser" players, or ones who conventionally play deeper on the pitch. Either way, that is hardly a progressive change, and the lack of a young upcoming option to bring on off the bench is a big miss currently. Wenger obviously tried to atone for the gap in the squad with the signing of Ju-Young Park, but that didn't work out, and with him now out on loan, the squad needs another striker. And no amount of listing Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain as strikers on the official website's squad pages will change that.
