Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Loic Remy Isn't Worth £80,000

5. The Demba Ba Paradox

At Newcastle, Demba Ba was one of the most intense strikers in the Premier League: he was powerful, quick, technically superb and lethal in front of goal - the same goes for West Ham. At Chelsea, he has barely been average. A similar thing happened with Andy Carroll and others before him. The problem for these types of strikers is that they are made to look world class because of the lower level teams that they are in. They are the focal point of an attack and the main receiver during any attacking phase, and typically, this scenario simply doesn't present itself amongst the top clubs. The truly world class strikers only need a split second, not 90 minutes. Loic Remy is a very talented player, he has pace, vision, technique and an instinctive finishing ability; but without being the central figure in a team's attacking play there is no guarantee that he will produce the same results he has for Newcastle or for QPR. As the perfect example of a Loic Remy type of signing Arsenal made recently, just think Andrey Arshavin. Loic Remy will likely be another Arshavin, another Demba Ba, and for £80,000 per week Arsenal could pay for 2 Kieran Gibbs instead.
