Arsenal Transfers: 6 Deals Wenger Could Do Today

6. William Carvalho

Quite why Arsene Wenger didn't think Alex Song was a good option to strengthen his midfield - despite the player's availability on a loan deal and his familiarity with the team - remains to be seen, but rumours suggest that the French manager has his eyes fixed on a more expensive option for the same position. According to the Daily Mail, Wenger is expected to make another inquiry to Sporting Lisbon for combative, highly-rated midfielder William Carvalho before the end of the transfer window to increase the Gunners' available midfield options. Though the Portuguese player has a £37m release clause in his contract, Wenger is apparently confident that Sporting will take more like £20m for their star midfield asset, which might be conjecture too far. But he is certainly worth northwards of £20m, and fits the near-Galactico model that Wenger seems to be adopting in the transfer market now.
