Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner Has No Interest In Joining Sunderland

"Never say never about Sunderland, but it is not certain that I will be here if the opportunity arises."

Nicklas Bendtner is unlikely to join Sunderland permanently in the summer after hinting that he will likely turn down any overtures from the Black Cats. The 24-year-old Danish international has been in the North East since securing an August transfer deadline day loan switch from Arsenal. He has scored seven goals during his stint at the Stadium of Light but has only shown his qualities in flashes with many of the Sunderland supporters unsure of his credentials as a Premier League striker who can carry the frontline. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger long gave up on Bendtner becoming the finished article and was desperate to get the striker off his books last season. He has made Bendtner available for £4.5 million but Martin O'Neill hasn't yet decided on whether he fits into his long term planning. The Black Cats boss is expected to make wholesale changes in the summer as he is working from Steve Bruce's team right now and will want to bring in his own faces and a new striker or two is a priority. Bendtner is believed to prefer a move abroad than stay in the Premier League and is hoping for a change in scenery. The Daily Mirror quote him as saying;
"Never say never about Sunderland, but it is not certain that I will be here if the opportunity arises. "About Arsenal, I obviously have to have a chat with the club about it , but it's not there that the first priority is going to be. I think I have been fairly clear about it." "It's been great to come up here and get games. It's different than what I was used to at Arsenal, but it's been a good period for me."
