1. Simply Put, Aston Villa Should Be Looking At Better Players
Just to round this one up, when Paul Lambert left Norwich City to take up the job with Aston Villa it was thought that he regarded Villa as a bigger club with more potential, something though that is largely a matter of reading between the lines. However, this idea makes a mockery out of his pursuit of Hoolahan; a player that he had in his League One squad at Norwich. Yes, he is a good player for a team with a modest amount of money to spend. However, if we are to believe that the pockets at Villa Park are a lot deeper than those at Carrow Road then its surprising that he is not able to recruit a better attacking midfielder. However, much the same argument could be applied to his pursuit of Grant Holt. At the end of the day, its approach he can get away with so long as it works. But Im not sure recruiting ageing players that are arguably past their best is the best way to impress your current employers. Holt and Hoolahan are decent enough, but Villa must look at the bigger picture as well as the longevity of such players.
