Bayer Leverkusen 0-5 Man United: Champions League Player Ratings

Manchester United confirmed their place in the Champions League knockout stage with their biggest ever away win in the competition over Sami Hyypia's Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

Antonio Valencia completed a fine team move to give the Red Devils the lead following early scares. Emir Spahic then headed Wayne Rooney's free kick past his own keeper to make it 2-0 at the break.

Jonny Evans exploited more set piece frailties in the second half, tapping in at close range when Patrice Evra nodded on a Ryan Giggs corner. Chris Smalling then added a fourth and Nani a fifth to cap a consummate away performance. David Moyes's team put their poor showing in San Sebastian against Real Sociedad last time out firmly behind them here. United had to do without senior names Robin van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Michael Carrick as they were all out injured. Summer signing Marouane Fellaini meanwhile missed out through suspension. Leverkusen were missing winger Sidney Sam and left back Sebastian Boenisch. They suffered without those key wide elements. They were outclassed on their own patch by the reigning Premier League champions. Who impressed us at WhatCulture? The sports team have rated both sets of players including subs.
