Before Eden Hazard: 5 Craziest Red Cards In Football

5. Joey Barton - Queens Park Rangers v Manchester City (2012)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAGiGT89G24 It's not very often that a player gets sent off, and then in the process of leaving the field, commits two more red card-worthy offences, but last year, QPR midfielder Joey Barton achieved just that. After receiving a red card for initially elbowing Carlos Tevez on the final day of the 2011/12 Premier League season, the hot-tempered midfielder then kicked Sergio Aguero and aimed a head-butt at defender Vincent Kompany. And to cap off the madness, City striker Mario Balotelli, not exactly known for his saintly butter-wouldn't-melt personality, then tried to diffuse the situation by acting as a calming influence as he led Barton down the tunnel. What makes this red card even crazier is that QPR were actually drawing at the time, and had every chance of causing the most unlikely of upsets had they not been reduced to ten men. The R's then defied the odds to go 2-1 up, and with the mere fact that this result would determine the Premier League champions acting as an underlying side-plot, Barton's actions were made to look all the more reckless. As it was, QPR lost the game 3-2, and City won the title. Barton was subsequently banned for 12 matches and is currently playing for French outfit Marseille on loan. Source(s): BBC
