Benoit Assou-Ekotto Left Out Of Spurs' Premier League Squad

The Cameroon international left back now faces an uncertain future.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been completely left out of the Spurs squads for both the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League campaigns this season - this is in spite of the fact that only 23 players have been named in both, even though clubs are actually allowed to name 25 - casting a serious doubt over his footballing future. The Cameroon international is now out in the cold, with Danny Rose and Ben Davies well ahead of him in the left back pecking order at White Hart Lane and, after having failed to earn a move away from the club in the summer transfer window, he probably faces at least four months of total inactivity until the January window opens. Assou-Ekotto spent all of last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers and the 30-year-old was highly expected to join up with the Hoops and his former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp again this summer, but it didn't happen and he now finds himself in limbo. The France-born defender has spent eight years at White Hart Lane, making 155 appearances for the Lilywhites. Here are the full squads, in alphabetical order, courtesy of the official Spurs website:

Emmanuel Adebayor Etienne Capoue Cristian Ceballos Nacer Chadli Vlad Chiriches Mousa Dembele Christian Eriksen Federico Fazio Brad Friedel Younes Kaboul Erik Lamela Hugo Lloris Paulinho Roberto Soldado Benjamin Stambouli Jan Vertonghen Michel Vorm Aaron Lennon Ryan Mason Kyle Naughton Danny Rose Andros Townsend Kyle Walker

In addition to the main squad list is an Under-21 list with an unlimited number of players - included on this list are Eric Dier, Nabil Bentaleb, Harry Kane and Ben Davies.

Meanwhile, we've also submitted a squad list to UEFA for the Europa League.

Were Spurs right to exclude Assou-Ekotto after his World Cup head-butting exploits? Or should he have been included to make up the numbers? And will he find a club in the coming months? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. And please feel free to follow me on Twitter!
