Best English Spurs XI Of The Premier League Era

1. Striker: Jermain Defoe

It was a tough call between this guy and "Sir" Les Ferdinand, but we've decided to go for Jermain Defoe. Defoe had two very successful spells at White Hart Lane and it was a very emotional day when he made his last appearance for the club €“ a brief five minute substitute appearance in a 1-0 home victory against Everton €“ on February the 9th 2014, prior to moving the MLS with Toronto FC, who were then managed by former Spurs player Ryan Nelsen.

His two stints at Spurs saw an output of 91 Premier League goals, as well as a further 52 in other competitions. In fact, Defoe is actually Tottenham€™s all-time leading goalscorer in European competition with 23 goals in 35 appearances €“ a feat he achieved on the 7th of November in 2013, when he scored at home to FC Sheriff of Moldova to go ahead of Martin Chivers' previous record of 22.

Defoe never won any trophies with Spurs, but he certainly had some very memorable moments, such as the time he helped himself to five goals in one match in a 9-1 thrashing of Wigan Athletic in the 2009-10 season. He has 55 England caps and has scored 19 goals for his country.

So there you have it - the best English Spurs eleven of the Premier League era. Did you enjoy this article? Do you agree with the entries on this list?
