Spurs' English central midfield contingent hasn't been that strong in the Premier League years and it was a tough call between Sherwood, Jamie Redknapp and even Jermaine Jenas for the final place in this hypothetical team, but Sherwood edges it by virtue of his combative style compliment Carrick's passing game so well. Sherwood joined Spurs for £4.5 million from Blackburn Rovers - whom he had captained to the Premier League title - and he went on to make 93 Premier League appearances, scoring twelve goals in the process. He played an additional 25 times in other competitions. He earned three caps for England at full international level and, despite his success at Ewood Park, all of these caps came while he was at White Hart Lane. He recently left the club, having been on the coaching staff for several years and spending six months as manager between December 2013 and May 2014.
