Defender: Rio Ferdinand

When it comes to the defence in a 5-a-side team, I think only one outright defender is necessary - and I think that one defender should be a central defender, which rules out considering any full backs for the role, so my choices for the defender in both teams will be a centre back. For England, I choose Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand has been at the top of his game for 17 years now, having performed at the highest level of English football for West Ham United, Leeds United and Manchester United since his Hammers debut in 1996. He has twice been the
world's most expensive defender, following his moves from West Ham to Leeds (£18 million) and from Leeds to Manchester United (£29.1 million). Ferdinand has also been a key England defender over the years and only recently, at the age of 34, was recalled to Roy Hodgson's latest England squad, only to pull out due to his very intricate and specific fitness regime.
Honourable mentions: Sol Campbell, John Terry, Tony Adams, Jamie Carragher, Gary Pallister, Gareth Southgate.
