Bolton's Fabrice Muamba Could Play Football In Just Six Months

Whilst some suspected he would never play football ever again and would need a change of his career, Dr. Richard Cooke of the London Bridge Hospital says Muamba could have long career ahead of him.

Fabrice Muamba could return to play for Bolton Wanderers in just six months time, according to a report in The Daily Mirror. Muamba, who was only released from hospital a few days ago after spending a month under careful watch after his collapse in Bolton's FA Cup quarter final match against Tottenham Hotspur in March where Muamba's heart stopped beating for an incredible 78 minutes, is making great strides in his recovery. Whilst some suspected he would never play football ever again and would need a change of his career, Dr. Richard Cooke of the London Bridge Hospital has told The Daily Mirror that he could have a long career ahead of him in the game.
"There are some footballers who do play with them and have had a similar history, so as long as he makes a full neurological recovery, from a heart perspective there is no reason why he couldn't resume his professional football career. "With his heart stopping for so long, it was an amazing story how they were able to keep him going for such a long period of time.
He later said:
"It depends entirely on the degree of recovery he has made already, but I understand he has made a surprisingly good recovery and all being well, I would not be surprised if he was back playing football in six months."
That would mean Muamba could be back playing for Bolton early next season. Unbelievable to think after what happened to him. Hopefully Muamba will enjoy some time off this summer and take it easy in the weeks and months ahead before being eased back into training if he has a desire to continue his footballing career.
