Cardiff 0-1 Spurs: 5 Key Things We Learned

3. Tottenham's Bench Is Capable Of Making A Big Difference

holtby In recent seasons past, Spurs have looked a little thin on squad quality and, as a result, the impact of their substitutions has been somewhat drab. This year, they have quality throughout the squad and this was epitomised when two of their three changes changed the game for the better for them. Lewis Holtby combined with Erik Lamela - both fresh from the bench - to set up Paulinho for his match-winning strike in added-on time, emphasising the importance of having a star-studded substitutes bench. Youngster Harry Kane also came on for Spurs and put in a decent, if brief, shift for the club. Being able to bring on players of this quality in times of strife will be key to Spurs' potential success this season, as injuries and weak benches have been detrimental to their achievements (or lack thereof) in recent years.
