Chelsea: 10 Most Costly Mistakes In Blues History

3. Sacking Jose Mourinho

That transfer window also played a part in the biggest mistake Roman Abramovich has ever made at the club, the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The Special One was given the boot in September 2007 following political wrangling within the club. The old mutual consent line was trotted out, but this looked to be a power play by the Russian owner. He wanted control over his club, and Mourinho failed to toe that line. Through the years Abramovich went through World Cup winners, Champions League winners and went close to admitting he was wrong when he brought in Mourinho protégé Andre Villas Boas. In the end the owner swallowed his pride, and reappointed the club€™s most successful manager in 2013. If Roman is going to admit it was a mistake, then it has to have been a pretty big one.
