5. Marco van Ginkel
With speculation over whether Juan Mata will be at Chelsea this season after recent enquiries into the 25 year-old Spanish international by
Real Madrid and
Barcelona, there may be an opportunity for the newly acquired Marco van Ginkel from Eredivisie outfit Vitesse to make the starting 11. Van Ginkel has been tagged one of the hottest prospects in European football and comes with a
£9 million price tag that I can see being rendered a bargain and a master-stroke by Mourinho come seasons end. He appeared 33 times for Vitesse last campaign and scored eight goals playing in an attacking midfield position with late runs into the box a highlight of the Dutch internationals game. Newly-appointed Swansea player Wilfred Bony can attest to the vision of van Ginkel. The big Ivorian forward was the leading goal scorer in the Eredivisie last season and can thank the wizardry of van Ginkel for a portion of those. Jose Mourinho has shown faith in the youngster by bringing him into the English game at such a young age and has spoken with such praise of his new signing to
Sky Sports.
"Of course he needs to play and he will, because he is a player with great potential and physically he is more than ready", said Mourinho.
Van Ginkel is yet another young and exciting attacking midfielder on Chelsea's books and I can see him receiving plenty of opportunities to shine in the 2013/14 season.
