Chelsea Transfers: 10 Players Who Could Be Sold By Jose Mourinho This Summer
2. Samuel Eto'o
The Cameroonian striker may not have been prolific for Chelsea since his arrival from Anji over the summer, but initial concerns over his fitness have gradually abated as his intelligence and big match experience have shone through. In an ideal world, it would be nice to keep Eto'o for another season at least. The truth, though, is that the Blues' strikeforce needs a complete revamp and with a big name striker almost certain to be signed in the summer and Romelu Lukaku returning from loan - with that £18m transfer fee hopefully protecting him from Mourinho's distrust - Eto'o is unlikely to be content with sticking around as third choice when he clearly still has much to offer at this level. Eto'o has earnt a reputation as a big game player at Chelsea, having scored vital goals against Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Galatasaray, and while the pace of old may have dried up, he's provided an important pivot for Eden Hazard to use in creating space to run into. Despite his advancing age, it's easy to see him enjoying a solid couple of years in the slower paced French or Italian leagues, particularly a club like Monaco where he could play as the deep lying forward in a partnership with Falcao, or A.C. Milan, who need another capable striker to complement Mario Balotelli and are always in the market for a veteran. There's always the MLS, of course, but having wasted so many of his best years in the footballing wastelands of Russia, it would be a shame for such a gifted player to once again go chasing the money rather than the challenge. It's not impossible that Eto'o could stay, as he enjoys an excellent relationship with Mourinho and could provide the team with an important extra option up front next season. At 33 years old and unlikely to command a starting place, though, the more plausible eventuality is that he'll be the only striker leaving Stamford Bridge this summer with his head held high.
