For those teams, however, the Jamaican seems to be less a priority than he is a luxury. They're already well-stocked upfront, even if - in the case of Bayern - wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are getting a little long in the tooth.

Chelsea, whose own collection of wingers includes the out-of-form Pedro and purported Manchester United target Willian, are perhaps in a stronger position to meet Leverkusen's asking price, as well as offer the player himself regular first-team football.

It wouldn't be too much of a deviation from the club's new fiscally responsible approach to player recruitment either, since Bailey is bound to have a massive sell-on value if and when he decides to leave.
