Lampard captained Chelsea in the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final against Bayern Munich, due to John Terry's suspension. After finishing 11 in normal time, the game went to a penalty shootout and who do you think stepped up to take a crucial penalty with the worlds spotlight shining directly in his face? Frank Lampard. He successfully converted his team's third spot-kick, which helped Chelsea win 43 on penalties. As Chelsea's skipper for the match, Lampard lifted the trophy with club captain John Terry, as Chelsea won the Champions League for the first time in their history. Why get rid of a player with such experience? A lot of Chelsea's players have no experience at all in winning the Champions League - players like Eden Hazard, Cesar Azpilicueta, Emboaba Oscar and Marko Marin. These players have never tasted Champions League success, least of all Premier League glory, and a player with Frank Lampard's experience could be instrumental in their quests in doing so.
