Chelsea Transfers: 5 Things Didier Drogba Can Still Offer The Blues

5. Extra Firepower

With Demba Ba ending his underwhelming one-year stay at Chelsea by joining Besiktas this summer, Samuel Eto'o being released at the end of his short-term contract and Romelu Lukaku facing an uncertain future, Chelsea have only two recognised strikers in their ranks in Diego Costa and Fernando Torres. Bringing Drogba back would therefore seem like a shrewd move - especially considering it isn't costing the Blues a penny to do so. The move makes more sense when you further consider the form of Torres, who has been a major disappointment since signing from Liverpool in 2011. With the tendency to run hot and cold, Chelsea cannot afford to rely on the Spaniard, and neither can they rely solely on Costa. Drogba would lend his former club extra firepower, and despite hitting the grand old age of 36, he hasn't lost his shooting boots. The Ivorian scored 10 goals in 24 Turkish Super Lig games last season, and while he is no longer a 30-goal-a-season forward, he still carries a goal-scoring threat, offering Mourinho another option in attack.
