Chelsea Transfers: Rating Mourinho's 10 Biggest Deals Of The Summer

9. David Luiz - SOLD

Chelsea fans loved David Luiz, though often weren't entirely sure why. It was probably something to do with the frizzy hair and lunatic personality, which for once quite overshadowed the fact that his performances on the pitch could range from world beating to cataclysmically self-destructive. He was an enormously popular presence at the club regardless, so there was some mixed feeling to the confirmation that he was to be sold to Paris St Germain for an undisclosed fee... ...That is, until Chelsea fans got a better idea of how enormous that undisclosed fee might be, at which point everyone bade him so long, and thanks for all the frizz. Whilst not officially confirmed, the fee is rumoured to be a staggering £40 million up front with up to a further £10m in add-ons. In other words, assuming he enjoys plenty of success at his new home, he'll have matched the fee Chelsea unwisely handed over to Liverpool for their crocked striker, Fernando Torres. Whether Luiz's transfer goes any better remains to be seen: he has the carefree personality to let the pressure of the move slide off his shoulders, but was also one of the most unpredictable and inconsistent players to ever step foot on the Stamford Bridge pitch. If he's played in his preferred central defensive position, he'll have to buck up his ideas and fast. If played in midfield, where Chelsea will probably miss him most, he may yet repay Laurent Blanc's confidence. Chelsea fans will miss his mad personality and his formidable midfield partnership in midfield with Nemanja Matic, but receiving a minimum of £40 million for such a loveable but inconsistent defender is an outstanding piece of business. Rating: 8/10
