Cricket World Cup 2015: 10 Dark Horses To Look Out For

9. Hamid Hassan

Age: 27 Team: Afghanistan Who: Reverse-swinging yorker-merchant Two ducks and five wickets including 3-45 versus Sri Lanka, it is safe to say that Hamid Hassan's World Cup has so far been a mixed bag. A skiddy bowler with a fast arm and low trajectory, Hassan has been likened by many to former Pakistani great Waqar Younis. Capable of bowling a devastating yorker, Hassan can be proud of the unique honour of being the first ever Afghan player to play at Lord's when he turned out for the MCC versus a Europe XI in 2007. A player who learnt his cricket in Pakistan - his family fled Jalalabad for Peshwar when he was six - he has played club cricket in the Central Lancashire League as well as being a member of the MCC groundstaff. In 2011 he lined up alongside the likes of Chris Rogers and Rahul Dravid to play for the MCC versus Nottinghamshire in the annual Champion County Match; he took seven wickets. A player dogged by injuries in recent times, if his body holds up Hassan could make a name for himself in the upcoming matches versus Australia and England.
