Crystal Palace Transfers: 5 Signings Ian Holloway Must Make To Avoid Relegation

4. Carlton Cole

Carlton Cole With Glenn Murray suffering a horrific knee injury against Brighton and promotion-winner Kevin Phillips considering retirement, Crystal Palace currently lack depth up top. Though the likes of Roque Santa Cruz, Franco Di Santo and Mladen Petric are all strikers available on free transfers, it is out of contract forward Carlton Cole who could be the preferred option for Ian Holloway's side. Cole suffered an inconsistent 2012-13 season in claret and blue, scoring just twice in the whole campaign and spending most of his time as a substitute. It was no surprise when the Hammers opted against renewing the former England international's contract, but Cole could still be a decent option for a Premier League new boy or relegation battler. Should Crystal Palace attempt to sign Carlton, they may face competition from Turkey and Scotland-based sides such as Besiktas and Celtic respectively, but the lure of staying in London and the Premier League may be all Cole needs to sign for Palace. If Carlton can find the sort of form that led to his England call-up, he could be key to Palace's Premier League campaign and with the lack of striking options Holloway has currently, Cole could find himself starting the majority of fixtures should he join the club.
