Dinamo Tbilisi 0-5 Spurs - 5 Key Things We Learned
4. Spurs Have Great Strength In Depth This Season
This was by no means Tottenham's best team. Of the usual first-teamers, there was no Jan Vertonghen, no Sandro and no Aaron Lennon in the squad, while Nacer Chadli started on the bench before his cameo and Kyle Walker was an unused substitute.. Top quality fringe players such as Jermain Defoe, Emmanuel Adebayor, Lewis Holtby and Benoit Assou-Ekotto weren't in the squad for various reasons, while Gareth Bale was nowhere to be seen for obvious reasons (could Spurs soon be able to call on his services after all? Rumours are that his move to Madrid is in doubt) and there are still several signings to come in, if reports are to be believed. Essentially, the point is that this was Spurs in second gear and at nowhere near the level they're going to be at their strongest. They have a stronger starting eleven than this and a much stronger bench at their disposal, so it will be very interesting to see how they do with a full squad once the new signings are in place and once more first-teamers return to action after injury.
