England squad announcements always spark debate and draw much criticism and Roy Hodgson was never going to please everybody with his 23-man selection for Euro 2012. But here are five players that have every right to feel aggrieved at their exclusion:
1. Micah Richards
With
Kyle Walker suffering a toe injury that ruled him out of contention for the squad, Richards could have been forgiven for assuming he would make the cut.
Glen Johnsons defensive qualities are constantly brought into question, the main question being: does he have any? and for all
Phil Jones promise he has struggled at right-back for Manchester United in the second half of this season. Richards form has undoubtedly dipped since the turn of the year, something that was addressed by Manchester City manager
Roberto Mancini who preferred to play
Pablo Zabaleta in that position for the last few games of the season. And One could argue that Johnson has the experience of being in the England squad before and that Jones offers more versatility, having played in midfield for England recently. Nevertheless many would still argue Richards has been the most consistent English right-back behind Walker this season.
