England, Spain & Germany: Who Has The Greatest Football League?

LA LIGA

Goalkeeper: Victor Valdes (Barcelona) This league is blessed with some of the world€™s best in between the posts; with the likes of Iker Casillas, Timo Courtois, Tono and Willy Caballero all extremely unlucky to miss out on being named as La Liga€™s top man between the sticks. Perhaps Valdes hasn€™t been at his imperious best so far this season but his consistency, in a Barcelona-side famed for their attacking flair rather than their defensive ability, over the years has proved vital, and has many Barcelona fans hoping he puts pen-to-paper on a new deal soon. Defenders: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Martin Demichelis (Malaga), Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba (both Barcelona) Before starting off it should be mentioned that Diego Godin is extremely unlucky to miss out on the best defense in La Liga, as he has been key in Atletico Madrid having the best defensive record in the league. Sergio Ramos has matured to become the most consistent and important defender Real Madrid have had since Fernando Hierro, offering leadership that will surely see him become club captain one day soon. Martin Demichelis arrived at Malaga during their spending spree a couple of summer€™s ago, and though the excitement at Malaga has somewhat faded, Demichelis€™ form has been superb and is one of the key reasons for Malaga€™s excellent defensive record this season. Pique and Alba have been rocks in a shaky defensive backline for Barcelona this season; Alba has slotted in to the team as if he had never left, and Pique has been a calming presence in the Barcelona back-four that tends to miss Puyol in his ever-increasing absence as well as adjusting to Mascherano who has proved time and again to be too impulsive at times. Midfielders: Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta (both Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) These three midfielders have picked themselves; there can be no argument here. They all have Champions€™ League medals, World Cup medals and La Liga medals to back up their claim. Attackers: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Radamel Falcao (Atletico Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona) Once again I don€™t think there could be any disagreement with this top three being considered the top three strikers in La Liga. Between these three players they have scored 94 league goals; this is 16 goals more than Osasuna, Granada and Real Zaragoza have managed to score combined. Falcao has 46 league goals in 60 appearances for Atletico Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has 140 league goals in 129 appearances and 4x Ballon D€™Or winner Lionel Messi has 212 league goals in 243 league appearances. These records really speak for themselves.
