One of the more disappointing players signed under the David Moyes regime, there was a lot of expectation around defender Per Kroldrup when he signed from Udinese in 2005. A Danish international, he looked to be a bargain at just £5m as Everton looked to strengthen following their Champions League qualification. Unfortunately, things started badly for the Danish defender as he suffered a groin injury before playing a single game for the club, leaving him requiring surgery and missing an extended period. He eventually made his debut against Aston Villa on Boxing Day of 2005, putting in a forgettable performance in a 4-0 defeat that proved to be his only appearance for the club, therefore costing them a princely £5m per game. So bad was his time at Goodison Park, his Everton career is widely referred to as one of the worst transfers in the history of the club and English football itself, with the defender himself later admitting that he struggled to adapt to the pace and intensity of the English game. He was quickly sold to Fiorentina in January 2006, just 31 days after his Everton debut. He would make 117 appearances for the Italians before being released in 2012.
