Something of a rarity among successful football managers, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo played as a goalkeeper before taking charge of the Midlands side and turning it into a paradise for Portuguese prospects.

Throughout most of his playing career, Santo served mainly as a backup goalkeeper for a number of different teams, earning a Champions League medal with Porto in 2004 but ultimately making fewer than 200 league starts before retiring after 18 years as a professional in 2010.

Interestingly, despite being between the sticks, Santo once found himself on the scoresheet in a game for Porto after fellow list entrant and then-manager Jose Mourinho allowed him to take a penalty during a win over Varzim - which he duly converted.
