Every Player To Score On Their Newcastle Debut In The Premier League

4. Duncan Ferguson - Vs Wimbledon (November 28th 1998)

To replace Stephane Guivarc'h, Ruud Gullit quickly splashed £8 million on Everton's Scottish forward Duncan Ferguson, who wrote a two-page goodbye letter to the club's supporters in their official magazine stating how he had not wanted to leave Goodison Park in the first place. Paired up front alongside Andreas Andersson in a team that also contained Laurent Charvert and Stephen Glass, Ferguson made his Premier League debut against Wimbledon at St James' Park on November 28th 1998. With substitute Nolberto Solano having equalised for the Magpies following Marcus Gayle's opener for the visitors, the scene was then set for Ferguson - and how the big Scot delivered. First putting the home side ahead in the 59th minute, Ferguson kept plugging away until the very end - and, when he found the back of the net in injury-time, the forward became the first (and still the only) Newcastle United player ever to score more than once on his Premier League debut. Ferguson managed eight goals in 30 league games for the Magpies before returning to Everton in 2000.
