7. Memphis Depay

A highly rated young Dutchman, Depay moved from PSV to United for £25 million in June 2015, following in the footsteps of other Red Devils’ heroes such as Jaap Stam, Park Ji-sung and Ruud van Nistelrooy. He didn’t live up to the hype.

He did show flashes of his potential in his first year with the club, finding the back of net seven times, albeit only twice in the league. But thanks to Louis van Gaal’s atrociously boring style of football, he was unable to improve.

After the arrival of Mourinho the follow season, Depay became an outcast, clocking up just 20 minutes of league action before United cut their losses and sold him to Olympique Lyonnaise.

Now aged 26, Depay is the Lyon captain, successfully leading the line for club and country and is considered one of the best forwards in Europe. While maybe not on the same level as the likes of Lionel Messi or Mohamed Salah, he’s netted 53 goals, including 14 in 18 appearances this season before an ACL injury, in his time in France.

It looks as though United were too hasty when getting rid of the Dutchman, although on the plus side they haven't had to listen to his terrible rapping.
