Every Premier League Man Utd No.7 Ranked Worst To Best
3. Eric Cantona
The King himself, Eric Cantona became the first Manchester United player to wear the No.7 shirt following the introduction of permanent squad numbers in 1993 and he instantly lived up to the high standards set by other United heroes.
The talismatic French forward joined United from bitter rivals Leeds and had an instant impact, firing the Red Devils toward the first ever Premier League title. Collar up, he helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s side claim a total of four titles, two FA Cups and 82 goals across five seasons, setting up the club’s dominance for years to come and solidifying Cantona as a United and footballing legend.
He wasn’t without controversy of course. Who could forget the kung-fu kick, bizarre press conferences and sudden retirement. It is safe to say he has quite a few haters but despite all his off the field antics, he is still adored by the United faithful and regarded as one of the most significant players in Premier League history.
In many ways Cantona typified what it meant to wear the No.7 for United. Not only does one need to be an icon on the pitch but off it as well.
