Fabricio Coloccini Commits His Future To Newcastle United

After 18 months of uncertainty and rumour about his future at Newcastle Fabricio Coloccini has finally found his voice and nailed his colours to the black and white mast. The Magpies captain has been dogged by speculation regarding a return to Argentina and former club San Lorenzo, with whom he began his career, after asking to leave St James' Park in January 2013 and it is a relief to finally hear him confirm that he will be here next season after talking it over with Alan Pardew and club bosses. €œFor sure. I€™m going to be here," the 32-year-old revealed to the Shields Gazette when asked if he was sticking around on Tyneside beyond the summer. A "personal issue", according to Pardew, was cited as the reason why Coloccini yearned for a return to his native country but that is now resolved and the centre-back is now hoping to lead Newcastle towards breaking into the top-eight next term.

€œI had personal problems,€ he added. €œSometimes it€™s tough. You have to decide between the problems and the work.

€œSometimes it€™s too difficult. Now it€™s finished, and next season I will be here. I€™m looking forward to improving.

€œWe want the best for Newcastle United. This season we finished top 10, and maybe we will bring some players (in the summer).

€œWe will try to do well and finish in the top eight, or something like that. We will always try to improve.€

As a player in his prime years as a defender it is suitably reassuring that Coloccini has reiterated his commitment to the club. Although he's still by and large the cream of Newcastle's defensive ranks we've rarely seen him at his best this season, but now that his immediate future is settled it will hopefully lead to a more consistent Colo anchoring the back four.
