The best fantasy defender last season and the 11th best fantasy player overall, César Azpilicueta earned an astonishing 175 points over the course of the season, matching Tottenham's Dele Alli and outperforming his Chelsea clubmate Eden Hazard.

Priced at £6.5m, Azpilicueta is one of the most expensive defenders in the game but can offer huge value. Chelsea are always strong defensively and can be expected to keep a lot of clean sheets under new boss Maurizio Sarri, and Azpilicueta provides a big threat at the other end of the pitch too, scoring twice and creating six more goals last season.

The 28-year-old Spaniard should be a key figure at Stamford Bridge once again this year and has the versatility to play in multiple positions, which should appeal to Sarri, with the Italian coach tending to favour defenders who are comfortable on the ball and able to contribute to attacking moves. Azpilicueta may take a chunk out of your fantasy budget, but should prove to be worthy of the investment.
