Fantasy Premier League Tips: 17 Best Opening Day Performances Analysed
4. Robin Van Persie (Manchester United) - 12 points
The ridiculously expensive Dutchman went some way to justifying the faith of the 44.9% of managers who selected him with 2 goals and a 2 bonus for good measure. A good start to his golden boot campaign, and 12 precious points in the bag for those who bit the bullet and shelled out the cash. However, with tough clashes with Chelsea and Liverpool up next for the Red Devils, it may be an idea to "hold tough" on a team restructure for the 55% without him. Doubtless, the form that saw him net 26 last season is apparently still in place, but it'll be a real test for the Holland international against two mean defences who conceded nothing over the weekend, and there are plenty of strikers with softer schedules ahead.
3. Danny Welbeck (Manchester United) - 13 points
The United striker had a good opening day, netting 2 goals, and ending up with the 3 bonus ahead of club-mate Robin Van Persie. The fact that he played the full 90 minutes is a good sign for his chances of getting game time in the coming weeks and months. At £7.5 million, he's reasonably affordable as strikers go, but he'll face stiff competition for a starting place. Hernandez, Rooney, and Van Persie would appear to have better cases for regular starting berths up from, but his 2 goals won't have done his chances any harm anyways!
